What causes bad breath?

24 June 2020

Unpleasant odor from the mouth, halitosis, is a fairly common and frequent problem that causes discomfort to a large part of the population. Haltosis is mainly caused by improper hygiene.

Halitosis is caused by the animal products of many bacteria living in the oral cavity. Bacteria multiply, begin to break down waste and produce products with an unpleasant odor. They can be prevented only with proper hygiene and healthy immune system.

In addition to hygiene, there are many other factors that cause halitosis, for example:
• Carious and non-carious diseases of the oral cavity;
• During caries, demineralization and softening of the cool tissues of the tooth takes place, which later leads to a carious defect.
• The formation follows in the form of a cavity. The carious foci are full of microorganisms whose animal products cause unpleasant odors;

Periodontitis is a disease characterized by an inflammatory process of the tissue around the tooth, which is caused by microorganisms and is often accompanied by the secretion of purulent exudate;

• Fungal infections of the oral mucosa - candidiasis, stomatitis;
• Post-surgical injuries;
• Incomplete interdental contacts;
• Incomplete or substandard artificial constructions.

In any of the above cases, a timely visit to a specialist is required.

If your dentist notes that the oral cavity is in order, the cause of halitosis may be a pathological condition of any system of the body, for example: diseases of the respiratory and digestive systems, sinusitis, tonsillitis, diseases of the gastrointestinal tract, etc. Therefore, it may be necessary to consult a gastroenterologist or otolaryngologist.

Tobacco: It itself causes an unpleasant odor in the mouth. In addition, tobacco users are more likely to develop gum disease. Smoking also reduces the smell and if you do not follow proper hygiene you may be at risk of many diseases!

Some types of food can also cause unpleasant odors. Food from the digestive tract enters the bloodstream, is released into the environment through the lungs, and emits an unpleasant odor.

In order not to be bothered by halitosis and other dental problems, be sure to follow oral hygiene and do not postpone scheduled visits to the doctor.
